Facebook has advertisements on television and even newscasters claim they are Twitterers. So what is all the buzz surrounding social media? What is social media and how can you benefit from it?

First, social media is a promotional tool that tells a massive amount of people about your web site or business or even you.

The benefits are that it is low-cost and will provide you large volumes of customers to your site. Many of these customers will frequent your site dozens of times and tell all of their friends and they will tell their friends and so forth and so on. This puts a lot of people in touch with your services that you would never actually find through any other means.

So, if you have come to the realization that social media is an effective promotional device for you web site, lets discuss how it actually works. You’ll develop link baits and then get these links popular on social media websites.

How do you gain this popularity? You manage this through primary and secondary traffic. The primary traffic is the visitors that come to your site direct from the social media website you have chosen for your promotion. The secondary traffic is referral traffic which linked to the primary traffic and from there was sent to your content by the social media sites.

Once you become popular on social web sites, you’ll have a large volume of links. Many can be relevant and many may be not so relevant. But it could be such a large volume of customers coming to your site you could never have gotten from any other type of marketing for so little monetary input.

What are some of the best reasons and biggest benefits for social media use?

*It exposes your website to a larger group of people.

*It adds to the web traffic you already have visiting your web site from search engines.

*Social media is very low-cost compared to the thousands of dollars you could spend to buy links that the social media sites will provide your business for free.

*And one last, but very important benefit of social media is that it does blend in perfectly with any other form of advertising you choose to go with for your business.

Keywords are the key to increasing traffic to your website. But what keywords do you decide on?

Well, you type the keywords that you think are right for your site into the search banner and look at all the choices that magically pop-up on your screen. Check out the first five or six sites that appear. What Meta tags and site headers are the most frequent on those top few sites? There are your keywords.

It’s okay if these are actually relevant to your business site. You want to be at least placed on first page of the search and first choice would be ideal.

A computer does the evaluating and ranking of your site, but once it is placed, it’s people that are going to read it. If you are just placing keywords to get top ranked sites and it has nothing to do with your product or service you’ll lose more customers than you gain.

Links are another great traffic increasing tool. Find a website that you really like, ones that actually provides a service or product related to yours and has great traffic. You want to link with them to share their traffic and you want it to match your products. The reason for this is so when you get their traffic, it is traffic that is looking for a similar product to purchase. Need an example; if you are selling pies, you don’t really want to gain traffic that is actually looking for plumbers.

Blogs are another really great tactic for promoting web sites and increasing traffic to your sites. Either create your own or have someone else blog about your site. Be sure that blogs are interesting and consistent. Don’t make your blog just an advertisement of your product or service. Make it enjoyable to read, mentioning your business enough to draw their interest to your site, then once they are on your web site then sell them on your product.

You could also start you own forum to use as a traffic tool. It could be related to your web site. You instantly become an expert in your niche topic. You help others that join your forum by answering their questions about your topic. Because your website address, your URL, is your signature on your forum, they click and are taken to your web site. They get answers, you get traffic, and everyone wins.

It’s all just a name game. Maybe you don’t realize how important that domain name is. If you don’t think so, you better make a new plan. Why? Search Engine Rankings; that’s why.

Key words or phrases are vitally important in web search engines. The name you choose to help customers find your web site is of the utmost importance when they type it in. You want them to find your products or services. Now it would be a truly ideal and perfect world if you happen to sell clips and you call yourself clips.com. Also, if there were only one kind of clip in the world, but this is not to be. Do you sell paper clips, hair clips, super chip bag clips or clip boards? Most of the .com names are used up as well and simple would be better except for the fact you need and want to stand out.

So, at this late date in the .com world forget that. This is just an extension name like .org or .net anyway. Search engines do not show partiality to the extension at the end of your domain name anymore than the www at the beginning.

Here is the important part in search engine play, the words you choose to describe you business in between. Three of your keywords would be excellent and place you high in the rankings when users search for words that closely match your web sites products.

Hyphens are also good in search engines, as users tend to place them between relevant words such as www.silver-hair-clips.net or even www.deep-well-diggers.org if you happen to dig wells for a living. The list is completely endless for search engine optimization.

Put a lot of careful consideration into the importance of your domain name. It will place you closer to the top and most people scan the first few search pages to find what they are looking for.

This is also true for your descriptive paragraph that follows the domain name. Be sure to get the first couple of sentences as close to a perfect description of your site as possible as that is what will draw customers to your site. They want to know what you can do and provide them with before they click onto your site.

Don’t disappoint them—draw them in.
